We will create our centre at Folkestone Harbour, right in the heart of Folkestone’s future leisure area. Our immediate neighbours will be the fishermen, restaurants and pubs down The Stade and the artists and galleries in the Old High Street and Tontine Street. At some point in the future we will be joined by new neighbours arriving in the area to the west of the station.
We are convinced that given the adequate preservation of the old (and good design of the new) the town will turn a corner and once again become the fashionable destination that it was in the time by the Earls of Radnor during the 19th century. These lands are currently administered by Shepway District Council, with the Cabinet members forming the Board of Trustees.
The wide area has already got some exciting attractions and the video on this page demonstrates the great places for tourists to visit. From the remote shingle bank of Dungeness to the White Cliffs Country commencing at Folkestone Warren, a magnet for migrating birds, there is a diversity of interesting places to visit.
Nearby Hythe has its own character, including the Royal Military Canal on which festivals are celebrated and further down the coast Dymchurch and New Romney have their own attractions.
Across the Channel, but still our neighbours are the people of Boulogne-sur-Mer, with their own attractions such as Nausicaä - The French National Sea Centre. We are very hopeful that it will not be long before tourists can move directly from one resort to the other to the mutual benefit of both.
